Changes

August 27, 2008 by kylekernohan

Nothing stays the same, everyone knows that.  It’s easy to say when nothing’s changing.  When we all sat in class and thought about college and how exciting it’s gonna’ be and how we’d just say goodbye to everyone and start with everything off new; it will be so easy to just leave it all behind.  You know that nothing stays the same but sometimes it hurts so bad when it actually does.

We all got a small taste of change last night.  Patrick left for NYU as most of us know.  He was the first of our immediate group to really leave somewhere.  We all knew he was leaving, we were all well prepared… he remind us how many days he had left on a daily basis.  (ha!) But when the day actually came it was pretty tough and everyone handled it in their own way.  There’s no “right” way to send someone one off.  No one should ever feel bad for crying, and also no one should ever feel bad for not crying.

I went to Starbucks and while I was playing Big 2 I noticed something written on the table outside.  I immediately took a picture.  Apparently it’s an epidemic.  Everyone misses Bum.  As do I.  We all wish you luck man… best wishes.

Cheers.

Evergreen

July 14, 2008 by kylekernohan

When looking foreward to college it’s hard not to think about what you did on the way.  Kindergarten is still somewhere back there, with learning how to count, snack time, and that kid who always smelled a little funny?  So is 1st grade, when you’re finally let onto the “real” playground.  I’m speaking from Evergreen terms here so maybe it’s different elsewhere.  There is one important thing that must be pointed out.  “The MPR.”

Looking back on elementary school days, any one of them that had to do with the MPR was a good one.  Hands down.  Either there was an assembly, a talent show, rainy-day-schedule, or whatever, it didn’t matter. If the teacher says, “Okay, we’re going to head down to the MPR.” Boy you didn’t care if they were going to cut your little heads off, all you knew was that there are good things in there.

They always held the poety festival in there.  Lord how I hated the poetry festival.  “Mud, mud between my toes” was the only line I could remember reciting.  Always being graded on hand gestures, you always feel a little stupid up there.  Anyways, I was trying to get to that one kid.  That ONE kid that goes over the top, screams, shouts, talks so fast you can’t even understand a damn word he says but he’s looking funny up there so you laugh.  He always wins.  There’s a girl version of this as well.

Then there was Oregon Trail.  You’d have to buy crap along the way and sometimes you’d drown in that damn river.  My school we always played them on those computer that only show green and yellow, ironically those two colors don’t really fit well when you have a green horse and a yellow buggy.

New versions included the color white and black.

Then came the recorder.  My friend Chris could play the Yoshi Story theme on it, and I was eternally impressed.  I still have mine, and my book that tried to show me how to play Pokemon songs on it – I never tried.

I’m sure there’s a ton more memories I’m forgetting right now.  I will remember them soon.  Goodnight.

Lately

July 14, 2008 by kylekernohan

I’ve been away for a while; it’s really hard to write when there’s so much going on.  Basically my life has been a lot like The Wedding Crashers, except Jillian is Vince Vaughn and I’m Owen Wilson.  It’s obviously graduation party season.  Much like wedding season (that Jillian and I also crash), there’s really cool parties, lots of friends, conversations and tacos.

Caitlyn’s was fun yesterday.  It was a Casino theme with gambling.  I am of course, roulette king.  “17 black all the way.”  Beard man over here couldn’t stop giving me chips!  J.T. was having a good night as well.

It then started to rain and the party got moved into Caitlyn’s house.  “Everybody grab a chair!” Her mom shouted.  When there’s like 150 guests… that’s a hell of a lotta’ chairs.  We ran inside and continued the raffle of which Bum won three gifts.  Uh, clearly some shady business was going on.

Dodger Game

Jillian got my family and I some crazy seats to the Dodger game.  We were so close! I talked with this guy all game long…  not really.

Caitlyn’s Birthday

July 4, 2008 by kylekernohan

It was recently Caitlyn Ong’s birthday.  Our personal belongings are still drying from Justin’s annual rampage with the drench gun.  But what would a swim party be without Justin’s antics?!  Probably pretty dry… no pun intended.  I hope she had a good day.

Graduation

June 25, 2008 by kylekernohan

It’s a strange feeling to know that you’ve graduated high school.  Everyone says the same thing… in many different ways.  “Dude we graduated :0″  “Dude we graduated :) “  “Dude we graduated :( “  “Dude we graduated :/”  Dude we graduated -_-”  “Dude we graduated (^_^…)  But whether we like it, love it, hate it, or not, we’re never going back there again – unless of course you’re in band then I’llsee you at band camp.

It’s been a long “journey, path, trek, endeavor, period of enlightenment” whatever you validictorian speech giver’s wanna’ call it, but it went fast.  Probably faster than any of us every would have imagined.  It feels like last week I was clutching a hot, steamy, artery-clogging Rib-A-Q.  I can hear you at your computer, “Rib-A-Q BOO YAHH!”  Or getting busted for hoods by Desmond, cutting in line for renaissance give-a-ways, asking girls to dances, giving speeches, group projects, GLC’s, band camp, coaches, teachers, lunch ladies, Mrs. Wakefield at the student store, rally’s, spell outs, passing tests, failing tests, cheating on tests, copying tests, getting pissed off-ripping up-and throwing tests.  All things so unique to high school that it’s the only time we’ll do some of those things.

High school is significant no matter what label you put on it.  If it sucked, I’m sure it sucked hard, if it was great, then I’m sure you’ll value the memories, if it was whatev’s, well then you’re probably Justin Nichols and if it was shady, well then your either Bum, Davis, Ed or Jonathan.  But we will always remember high school.

Jillian’s Surprise Party

June 25, 2008 by kylekernohan

Jillian’s surprise birthday was a success.  It was this past Friday, and we all showed up at her house when she got home from work and surprised her by taking her to Earthen.  It’s this crazy Chinese place; I flung my chopsticks a couple times but it was a good meal.  Marika, one of Jilian’s old friends came up in the clutch and showed all the way from Diamond Ranch.

Ikea $2.99 Super Breakfast

June 25, 2008 by kylekernohan

This is Ikea.  Some refer to it as the Happiest Place On Earth.  I do… It’s like the largest furniture store ever.  So large, that it has it’s own Cafe which brings me to this entry.

This is the Super Breakfast.  “Is it really super Kyle?!” …absolutely.  Scrambled eggs, which are a litte fake-ish.  But it’s okay, when was the last time you got actual eggs at a restaurant – a while I’m guessing.  Potatoes which are simply amazing.  3 Slices of bacon, a Casey favorite.  2 Swedish pancakes with berry syrup.  They’re so good. The best part is, it’s $2.99.

The Band

Rockin\' at the Kernohan\'s nightly

This is the bunch of chumps that rolls up at The Kernohan house with amps, guitars, and hair brushes.  They practice all-damn-day-long.  They’re playing their second gig on Saturday at a house warming party and their third in July.  I’d say it’s a world tour.  Check out their band page at http://www.myspace.com/thefluffsmusic

Not Enough Time in the Day

June 24, 2008 by kylekernohan

Since Xanga wouldn’t stop bothering me to upgrade to Premium, like a pestering “take me to the mall!” kinda’ girlfriend, I dumped her.  No more Xanga, unfortunately along with my break-up there are no more eProps which I’m a little sad about.  But with time I will get over it.

My writing has become laxed over the summer.  There’s not enough time to manage my family vs. friends life let alone to spend some quality time with my computer.

There’s too much to say lately.  Good times, new times, bad times, best times, however there really is no time…

My good friend Justin Nichols hopped on the blogwaggon today, http://justin-nichols.livejournal.com/ if you know him, check it out.

I do what I can.

Cheers
